So I put together a 1/2" side draft burner this afternoon. In the open it will run from less than 1 psi to 30 psi. Second photo is it running at 30psi.

What are you going to run it in, a 2BF?
An Atlas? Bet it would do great in it!

Have you considered a choke plate? The side arm burners can benefit from that.... especially when heat treating at lower psi. Do you have any pics of a 5-7psi flame in the dark?

I'll try to get some other pics. My pressure gauge isn't precise enough to read exact pressures under 1 psi, but it would idle with a neutral flame somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 psi.

Phil. What size is the burner port on the Atlas? I wonder if this would fit?

The gas intake tube is 1.063" inner diameter. Would you be willing to build and sell me a burner, or maybe trade one for one of my prototype forges? I know I could go buy one, but I love trading and I have three prototypes that I really have no use for.

this is terribly interesting. More info, please?
I need a forge that can be run on propane. I can make a 2BF, but want it to be more robust than simply a pair of wired-together bricks, so it can be moved out the way etc.

The burner flair won't fit as it is. The end is about 1.25". I'll experiment with the flair to see if I can get something that will fit in an atlas.
First photo is it running at 5 psi, the second is with the needle on the stop peg. I'll need to see if it will run on house NG.

Very nice... mine doesn't run that well at that low psi.... 1psi is about as low as I can go without sputter.

Where is the placement of the contact tip with relation to the intake hole? How far in?

It's roughly centered. It needs to warm up a bit before it will hold the really low pressures.
