So far the drive sprockets are done. They are steel 3/8" thick at the teeth
and have shafts of 5/8" chrome molly.
The track links are 16 gauge steel (only did 13 of the 180 so far ).
The sprocket and links are pictured with a 1/18 tank to show the size.
The sprocket is 11.25" dia. at the teeth and the links are 9" wide.
This monster will be rc when finished.

Thanks for looking,
Mike

I make things. My shop is fairly extensive. I've been making
military miniatures for a long time.

A 1/3 scale - Wow! I'd hardly call that a miniature. That's an amazing project. Gotta love tanks. :)

How much will it weigh and what will drive it ?
The estimated weight is around 1500 lb. A large zero turn ( skid steer )
mower's drive train will power the tracks. Small dc motors will work
the turret, gun, etc. They'll run off a battery charged by the drive system.
I may make a few to sell.

"Why RC? Why not a person inside?"

Anything in rc is fun. If you're in it you can't enjoy
what it looks like while running.Scale speed is around
10mph. Not much fun to ride in. But running one rc'd
through obsticles is a blast.

The turret will turn and the gun will go up/down.
The gun will have a 1" bore. The plan is to fit it with
a 12 g. semi-auto shooting blanks.

I'm officially nominating this thread as the coolest project of the year.

It took me a second to realize the scale from the pics you posted. Outstanding project!

Next up: about a Royal/King Tiger? Now that would be uber-cool.

Good luck.

WoW thats some cool stuff. Please keep us posted with pics and vids would be great. Subscribed :)

From just the few photos here I'm freakin' impressed by what I see.

1500 lbs?!?!?!?!

You may want to make sure anyone you sell these to wear steel toe boots!

could someone enlighten me on what the pics in the op were for?

The sprocket you see is going on the model he is building, the model tank next to it is 1/18 scale just as a reference. That is going to be pretty awesome!

Here's a better pic. of the track links.
When the bearings arrive I can start mounting
the sprockets and internals. Once I have powered
sprockets I'll start on the roadwheels and suspension.

wow this is an amazing undertaking, are you building this thing just on your free time? Also where are you getting all your dimensions

As far as my wife's concerned, I have no spare time. But yes.

I'm converting 1/18 to 1/3rd. for the most part. I'm an hour.5
from the Aberdeen Armor Museum in MD. So I also go look at,
take pics. of and measurements of the real thing there.

I found an old chain driven skid steer mower today.
This will probably be the donor for the drive assembly
It's an 18hp. V-twin with duel exaust.
It can be made to sound "right" for the part.

Thanks for looking,
Mike

That's a very cool thing. :)

I know a few people that would probably burst into flames if they saw that. :D
