1/3 scale Panther Tank Project

Really cool! Don't forget to keep us in the loop as to your progress!

ETA: These pics came from the Patton Museum, Ratcliffe, KY, early April, 2010. I *think* they've been moved to Ft. Benning by now; I know the M-28 has already been moved.

Outstanding work Mike, you remind me of a Model Maker /Machinist friend of mine who was into the same type of thing except he liked ships and collected Kukris your not him are you, does your last name end in itz?

Did ya work for Amp inc in Somerville NJ durin' the late 80s?

Do you build workin' engines too or do you use the available commercial scale motors?

Sorry for all the questions, I used to really enjoy buildin' miniatures in the shop when we had down time, I built a miniature steam engine and a Stirling Hot Air engine when I had access to more equipment back in the 80s.

Keep up the great work and please more WIP pictures we all enjoy them.

Nope. I'm a different Mike. But I did come from Jersey. Westmont, NJ.
I've used all sorts of engines in these things. Never built my own (engine) though.

Man thats bad ass. Nice detail you have going into that thing. It will be nice to see as it progresses. Great job so far.

So far the drive sprockets are done. They are steel 3/8" thick at the teeth
and have shafts of 5/8" chrome molly.
The track links are 16 gauge steel (only did 13 of the 180 so far ).
The sprocket and links are pictured with a 1/18 tank to show the size.
The sprocket is 11.25" dia. at the teeth and the links are 9" wide.
This monster will be rc when finished.

Thanks for looking,
Mike

You should have it shoot lasers that deactivate another tank if you hit it. Then you can battle it out like those 'toy' tanks with that kind of a set up.
