I have been looking at the Kershaw Military Boot Knife but can not find any reviews on it inside or outside of this website. Also can not find any good specs on 1.4116 German. I am sure that it is probably just a new name for something already common. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have a kitchen knife in this steel, with .5 per cent of carbon. Performs very decently, likes to be steeled, very stainless, easy to sharpen. Might be a little bit better in edge holding than say 440A, thereabout overall.

Yes that's the typical european kitchen knife steel . Not the most wear resistant since it only has .50 C but makes a decent knife . There are many systems in the world for steel standards and there have been efforts to unify them. The latest is the number system as you mentioned.

Used by Linder, Puma and other Solingen German knife makers. Linder calls it 440 steel. The German manufacturers have the heat treat pretty good under control (R.C. 56) and Linder also uses cryo on their blades. Decent steel if you're not into "super steel" for the average hunter in Europe this steel is all they need. Testing put it above 420 and 440A in edge retention. Very tough and corrosion proof steel. Have a few blades in them.
