Just thought you might want to know that the 1/8"(.140) 80CrV2 is in stock and up on the web site!

Hey Aldo. How does this steel respond to a quench in canola oil. Is it a fast enough quench?

Yes. Canola is more than fast enough, even at room temperature. I've done this a few times for 1/4" thick choppers.

Quench it in something wet and you should be good ;). You have about 7 seconds to beat the nose which is very deep hardening, almost as much as O1 and L6.

1080+ (80CrV2) was my first knife steel, and I loved it. Still do! 1/8" thick 80CrV2 makes for a FINE knife. I would LOVE to see this steel with the Nickel content, tho. Most formulas given for this steel show a Ni content, but I have yet to see any 80CrV2 with it. Regardless of that, this steel is great stuff. Very very easy to work and finish, and heat treat is easy too. No real need to soak at temp, but if you have that ability I would give it a short soak. 1475F-1500F should give you great results. HIGHLY recommended steel for beginners and old hats both. While not enough Vanadium (or extra carbon) for carbide development, the slight addition that is there helps to keep aus grain small. Super fine grain steel.

Thanks for the update, Signore Bruno.
