For those not familiar with these excellent older knives I'm posting more info and YouTube videos about them after the pictures so you can get a good idea what they are like. I have listed these before and folks like them but the price was a deterrent. I'm dropping the price about $50 in order to get them to a new home.

This is a large and heavy red crested Al Mar Attack #3003 large Combat Fighter with Sheath and Stone. Very good condition, minor scratches, appears to never have been carried or sharpened. It has a 4.25" blade and is 10.25" overall. Blade thickness is about 3/16th. The blade steel is AM-6 (today's high performance AUS-6A stainless steel). The handle is brown-black micarta with solid brass liners. The tactical camo covered black leather sheath was made by Shoemaker & Sons and has a pocket for the included sharpening stone. It has a belt loop and brass holes on each corner for web belt hooks. Here is a little history about Al Mar. He was born in the US, a son of Chinese immigrants. Mar joined the US Army after college and became a First Group Special Forces officer who served in Vietnam prior to 1960. After serving in the Army, Mar earned a Masters Degree in Industrial Design from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. His masters thesis was building and launching a working 2 man submarine. Upon graduating he went to work for an industrial design firm in LA in 1967. Mar went on to become a packaging designer and eventually the head of knife design for Gerber Legendary Blades in 1968. Gerber's head designer had retired and Pete Gerber gave Mar the task of coming up with an aluminum handle for a kitchen knife. Gerber thought the project was very successful and offered Mar the position of Design Chief. In 1979, Mar left Gerber to form his own company: Al Mar Knives. The knives were manufactured in Seki City, Japan in a 1000 year-old sword making facility. Al Mar knives have been made several excellent Japanese knife manufacturers. Al Mar died in 1992 from an aneurysm. In 2009, Al Mar was inducted in the Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall of Fame. With the founding of Al Mar Knives, Mar is considered the father of specialty custom/production cutlery and led the way for the trends within the cutlery industry for using custom quality and design in a mass produced knife. Drawing on his experiences as a lifelong martial artist with black belt rankings in Judo and Kendo, and his service as a Green Beret, the majority of Al Mar Knives were initially designed for the military and law enforcement communities. The Al Mar SERE Knife was the first knife accepted for use by Special Forces Colonel Nick Rowe for the SERE Instructor School at Camp McCall, NC. The SERE was the first factory-made production knife to sell for over $100 in the US.

This knife is a rare version of Mel Pardues custom Model B knife that he allowed Benchmade to manufacture. This unique knife is one from a special sprint run that Benchmade produced and is number 139/500. Unlike the regular Benchmade 850, it has the designation 850-01, the black Dymondwood bolster, the very nice aluminum carrying case. It is NIB, mint!
This Mel Pardue designed 850-01 is an unusual departure from your normal black G10 tactical Benchmades. It has a gentile, go out on the town, or Sunday best feel to it. And the 850-01 looks like a true custom made knife. As already mentioned it is a special production version of Mel Pardue's custom Model B folder.
The shape of the Pardue's ATS-34 blade is a flat grind spearpoint, with a shallow belly. This shape is perfect for general cutting and piercing tasks, or cleaning your fingernails. For a small single blade gentlemens folder it is hard to beat the lightweight and smoothness of this knifes ivory micarta handle. The white ivory micarta lends a nice contrast to the black bolster, think tuxedo.
Here is good YouTube video of the Benchmade 850, the basic model, not this knife model which is the 850-01, showing the knife in action.
