1 CRK Knife For 1 Year!

I was looking for this thread! I posted on the Damascus specific thread but totally forgot about this one.

As promised, 365 days of straight EDC from new to current. Lots of great memories and marks!

Special thanks to Tim, Brendon and the rest of the CRK crew for dealing with my MAD requests to help me with the challenge!

Looking forward to carrying another CRK and switching it up.
Changed to double lugs back in June 2023 and changed to the Ghost RGT Clip in Sept 2023

**Now, Currently carrying a OD Green Magnacut DP Zaan** - This will probably be my EDC for a while, but I don't plan on carrying it for a year straight.

Well strike one for me occurred not long after I started in the fall of ‘22.
So on December 14, 2023 I restarted the one year challenge with my small micarta inlaid 21 Classic.
As per the rules I’ve waited a full two weeks to make this post and post pictures.
so here we go again…

Tomorrow will be six months of daily carry of the Small Sebenza. This challenge started out easy, but my Large Sebenza and Inkosi keep calling my name. It’s a shame to leave them on the nightstand every day.

Although the Small is more practical for my daily knife uses and I haven’t needed a larger knife, the Large framed models are still my favorites. I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to resist carrying them another 6 months, but I’m still plugging away.

I’ve been very happy with Magnacut’s performance. I don’t notice it taking any more effort to sharpen, but it seems to holds an edge better than my S30V and S35VN CRKs.

Events outside of knife collecting have kept me mostly away from here for close to 2 years now, nothing I've discussed over here. But I liked this thread from the start, not just for the content but for the open-minded way various situations were handled as they came up. In the last couple years my interest in collecting and knives as a hobby have changed drastically, as have my reasons for choosing what I carry. These days I carry what I refer to as the Sunset Sebenza, a large Morning Sun design that reminds me of the sunsets my husband and I loved to watch in our too short time together. CRK engraved his name on the lockside, and I carry it every day to honor him. Because of my reason for carrying this one, I figure there's a real good chance I'll complete the one year-one knife thing, and maybe for many years to come. So I'll throw it in here, although I can't promise regular pics or even updates.

I am starting the 1YC with this knife: The Sunset Sebenza, a large 21 UG Morning Sun with " ❤️ Ron G. ❤️" engraved on the lockside starting now, _ April 24_, this is my _ 2nd_ try.

As I expected was going to happen, I blew past the year mark with the Sunset Sebenza (Large 21 that shares our anniversary but from an earlier year) in my pocket every day and no plans yet to stop carrying it. The Gold Wire Classic shown here sometimes rides along in another pocket, due to a special connection it has to my husband. But when it comes time for use, it's the Sunset Sebenza that comes out of my pocket. A little more dogeared, and sporting a Mukume JekyllToHyde backspacer and matching bead, with a scruffy Hawk clip that's on probably it 3rd knife, but all it needs is a little cleaning up and the edge touched up.

Congrats on the 1 Year Challenge Win! That is an awesome (and very special) knife to have around.

Oh, and here's a high-five from one Torti owner to another! ;)✋

I remember back a few years, for a long time you, me, and probably a few others never thought the day would come that I'd meet this challenge. How things have changed.......

Thanks for showing me your beautiful girl, I can just see the torti-tude in that face. I'll bet she's fun to have around! ❤️

Yesterday marked one year of carrying the Small Sebenza. It’s been an interesting exercise in self control. For the last few months, I haven’t really cared about the self-imposed limits on what I’m carrying. It’s also saved me a lot of money as there’s not much out there that would realistically kick this knife out of my pocket.

With the exception of food prep, the small has been plenty of knife for everything I’ve needed this year. A buddy sent me a RGT clip that I’ve found to be more comfortable in hand and a little nicer looking than the factory clip. That said, the factory clip is still great.

Having one knife has also made it easier to keep track of. I’ve had a couple of near catastrophic losses:
- I was coming back to work from lunch and had my knife on my lap. A couple of hours later I noticed it wasn’t in my pocket. I went outside and found that it had been laying in the parking lot. Shift change was approaching, so I’m sure a few people walked past it and either didn’t notice or just left it alone.
- Another night, I was getting into bed and couldn’t find my knife. I knew it was in the house somewhere so didn’t worry too much. My wife insisted that I look for it though. I retraced my steps and had no luck for the longest time. Finally, I checked the trash can. I had thrown it out with corn husks when I was cleaning up from making supper. Scary to think that I almost threw away my CRK.

I have been going daily with an L31 insingo in Magnacut since July 5th this year and really had no intention of stopping. A year seemed easy since I'm just very content with this knife...

That was until my wife got me another one with gorgeous bog oak inlays she is holding for Christmas.

Then this week I did some horse trading and managed to score an L31 drop point Magnacut with a CF front scale. It should arrive Tuesday.

I'm not sure I can hold out here.
