I have for sale some 1 inch square 5160.
It was made in 1984.
I have a supply of this that I acquired 9 years ago and have decided most of it must go.
When this stuff is gone - it's gone.
It's the only dimension of this I have ever seen.
It was milled for a manufacturing process that changed shortly after it was delivered and this steel got relegated to a pallet behind the warehouse, where it sat for 20+ years before I got it.
It's rusty and pitted.
But it's also only 3 bucks/lb.
And it's GOOD stuff! All from the same custom melt. I have the specs.
I threw a piece of this on the surface grinder and ground all four sides until it was in clean, smooth steel. It measured .930" square.
After only a little time in the forge and under that power hammer/press, the rust and pitting is a non-issue.
Great for small 'hawks, hatchets, Clown slayers, etc.
Shipped Flat Rate in a wooden box.
Just under 70 pounds for $220.00
A 1/2 order will be $123.75.
All cut in 1 foot pieces to make it affordable.

I'm not sure at this time how much of it I will sell, but for a while, it's available.
Make comments here and I will see how it goes.
I've already sold a number of boxes on Facebook.

How much for a knife shaped piece....with a guard......and handle.....screwed together? ;)

This is some of my original stash:

In 2008 I gave Lin Rhea and Roger Pinnock each a bar of this 5160, a chunk of early 1907 Bakelite and a piece of 1903 wrought iron at the Blade Show.
I told them we would all three make a knife from the same material and show it to no one and bring it to the Blade Show the following year.
This is what we all three made - One from a Master Smith, one from a Journeyman Smith and one from a collector.
Mine, of course, was a takedown.

Karl, I'd like a box for 220.00.

How do I pay you?

Jack

I'd be happy to send you one.
At the bottom of my home page is a Paypal "Buy Now" icon. Click the link in my signature.
You can use that and then wait a few days. I have quite a few to cut up and ship.

This is good steel here!!! I have new respect for 5160 after being around one of Jerry Fisk's personal cutters forged from said steel.

There are some things it won't do, but from this steel right here I once made a hunting knife that just had no limits. I must have really nailed it and I austenized it with an O/A torch.
I'm not even gonna say what it did.
