1 Luxury item

I've been trying to figure out how to get Elizabeth Hurley down to one pound, but I'm not having much luck with the problem (dammit.)

An 8oz flask of Famous Grouse and a small AM/FM/SW radio.

hey dizos
I work for list of diferent photography. (where ever the money is NOT EVER PAPARAZZI :barf: ) But the most work I do in the jungle is working for NGO's with the side of selling the stories to news agencies, My most fun work for an NGO is/was for Global Witness, off the books as there was at the time a $1500 reward for a hit on any worker for them $2500 for taking the plane down that is in Cambodia :) . I always carry my machete with me + more so that covers my large blade it's a Ontario saw back 18inch blade. But there is also alot of other work for the news in the jungle depending on what country your in. Why I said sugar or sugar related. we trek up for 2 weeks one direction dumping food for the way back to lighten our load and it went bad. So one week on a bowel of rice aday & a pack of noodles for 3 people. I would have loved some energy then.

1. Obviously, I'd rather not carry the extra pound of weight. This was said earlier.

2. If I could, I'd bring more of something I *do* need, like more rope, more water, more matches, etc. A lot of people said this, too.

3. But if I really could, a camera and some film, and if that didn't quite equal one pound, I'd bring a sketch pad and some pencils.

I'd say the luxury item I generally carry anyway, a deck of plastic playing cards; lightweight, small, usable by 1-4 people, huge variety of games, water proof, very durable.

Plastic cards are a little hard to find, and more expensive than regular cards, but a good investment.

My camera's costs me around 15-18kg (sorry about the kg I'm not too good in pounds I think it's about half) its not a luxuruy :( . But go for it, great things come from a camera in the jungle. :D

The whiskey idea sounds good...

Extra coffee, a book to read, extra batteries for the flashlight... all sounds good.

Tobacco. I could probably go a couple days without just fine,

Not me  I would have smokes covered in the essentials right after water.

As for my choice, a bottle of port would be nice. '63 Dow :D

Okay - I'm assuming that you will not have the means to wash yourself regularily. My luxury item is always a small package of pre-moistened baby wipes. You can get a small package of 20 or so. I absolutely hate the feeling of a sore a$$ after two weeks without showers or washing faciliites....use the baby wipes every time you have a "movement" or just use them to freshen up - nothing like a sore a$$, walking all day to make you wish you were somewhere else.

Laugh or not, but I'm dead serious.

*I'm* not laughing. ;) They're on my Level 2 essentials list (Level 1 being fire starters, water filtration/purification items, etc.) One of my Elk hunting buddies is a Spooky military guy, he feels just as strongly about 'em.

Camera's! :D about 3 camera's, compact flash cards, film, lenses, tripod and so on. Yeah s*#~ loads but always worth it. Carried in a separate bag not my backpack. But for those that are not photographers a great luxury :D .

My luxury item last summer was a candle lantern, with one of those 8 hour candles in it, for a week long trip. I think I used a third of it.

In the future, I might bring small binoculars, or a small shortwave, or food treats, or more white gas for the stove. I might bring a couple of sticks of butter. Just depends. Has to be welcome and seem "lavish".

Canned almonds. Just whatever.
