1 Month No Cigs

Congrats on the membership. It's a good thing to keep the forums going.

Like you, I didnt want to quit. I LOVED cigarettes.

I just knew it was time to quit.

Deb and I planned on coming up with a quit date for several months. We finally picked a date a month ahead of time. Our doctor gave us some patches to use as we had planned on using some sort of nicotine replacement.

But on the day we decided to give them up, we both just felt like getting off the nicotine completely. So we ripped them stinkink patches off and havent looked back. :)

Just kidding, It's still pretty tough at times when my hands are idle. But getting our minds set and determined is keeping us going.

Just do it

Congratulations!! I am still off the wagon so to speak, but I am getting to the point that it's time. For many years I didn't want to quit, which was the biggest obstacle, but the tide is turning. Did you use patches/gum/etc. or just cold turkey. Just curious.

Cold turkey for us. Like Mark - got rid of the patch before they were out of the box. I smoked for over 50 years Mark so It can be done.;);)

I had another "you should quit moment" yesterday. I had a meeting with a guy and he was late. He finally showed up and I walked with him 30 feet to his front door and up two steps, across the porch and noticed he was totally winded. I wasn't paying attention at first, but he had a portable oxygen rig hanging from his shoulder and he was wheezing and didn't look so good. I thought "that could be me..." Wow. Reality check for sure.

RE Membership: For seven pennies a day advice from some real experts is way cheap IMHO. Thank you!!:)

It's been 19 yrs for me. I quit when I realized my setter was missing birds he shouldn't have, :-)
Quit chewing 3 yrs now and it's still hard. 40 yrs of JBCut and Five Bros. Some days rocks taste good.

Congrats Mark. Keep it up and give Deb an extra hug for me.

Congratulations Mark!!!:D I too really want/need to quit smoking.I quit drinking on Sept.13 2005 & never looked back.It was easier than I thought it would be.Quiting smoking will be my greatest challenge ever.Like you said,"I LOVE SMOKING",but HATE the side effects.I've been smoking for over 25 yrs. & definately feel what it's doing to my health.Plus cigarettes here in NJ are around $6-$7 a pack($360 a month between me & my wife!!) & it's really putting a beating on my wallet.:( Thanks for your inspiration.:)

I quit last may after 15 years, toughest thing for me was getting in the car and wanting to light up.Now I just chew gum and sunflower seeds.Keep at it and treat yourself to a new toy for saving the money.
