I'm so proud to own a nice Rockwell Sander/Grinder. Can someone please recommend where to purchase the sanding belts from? As usual, good prices help out these days. Thanks for your help... :)

There or Lee Valley in their sharpening (not sanding) section.

Or, try your local H D epot store. I purchased some 1"x30" & 4"x36" & 6"disc Diablo belts. The work VERY good & last a long time & are reasonable in price.

Those might work for coarse work but I'm pretty sure you aren't going to find micron belts at HD.

I pick my belts up at Lee Valley, they also carry leather stropping belts and polishing compound

Another vote for Lee Valley Tools. Been buying from them for years and highly recommend them.

I have that Rockwell 1x42 as well. Let me ask you, how loud is yours? Because mine sounds like a Space Shuttle launch.

The old Rockwell sander/grinders are noisy, but if you keep good wheels on them that cuts the noise way down also. The wheels with the rubber coating are still available on eBay. I don't mind the noise though... I'm so proud to own a fine, well made rig to use in my shop. I wouldn't sell it for any $$$. smile

ive been dealing with supergrit for nearly 12 years now and they have all kinds of 1X42 belts (thats what i started with )

I just picked up a Rockwell grinder myself, I'm glad other people have them too, I couldn't find much out about them!
Mine is much louder than the 4x36 it replaced as well.

For a quick belt purchase I went to Lee Valley, but supergrit is around half price on most belts (although I did find that the 15 micron belt was only 50¢ cheaper! But I am also Canadian, so that accounts for some of the Lee Valley difference.

Hope you like your new grinder! Mine is taking me a bit of time, but I have only worked on a couple of blades this far, and am used to the radius available on the 4x36, but love how much quicker the new grinder hogs off steel- a real grinder must b incredible to use!
