10/22 for SHTF: follow up thread

My SHTF 10-22 is a stainless model with a Hogue stock, Tech Sights, canvas sling, and lots of ammo. I built it off the Appleseed shoot Liberty Training Rifle model and it works for me. I love the Tech sights as they mimic the standard AR15 style sight picture. It's a nice simple reliable rifle :)

My build is still in progress due to... issues, but started with a Savage Mk II FV, bought a takeoff BV stock from a forumite only to find that Savage changed the inletting slightly, so my stock didn't fit. One of these days it's going in to get re-inletted and then glass bedded. The action has been Alumahyded Dark Park grey, and the stock has been textured with fiberglass resin. The stock has been Alumahyded in GAP 3 color. Using Burris XTR rings and purchased a nice Bushnell Elite scope but decided it was too high power, so I'm selling it for a 3-9x40 instead. Some people have to learn the hard way... alot more money into this build than I'd thought I'd be but it should be a really bombproof, simple and accurate rifle when all is said and done.

RatDrall is right on

Thanks!

I built my first 10/22 recently, setup for "emergencies" requiring quiet(er), well placed shots. It does that alright now, but I have a stock trigger group that is making it very difficult to enjoy my Bentz chamber...

Learned a lot at the rimfirecentral.com

5. my rifle liked to throw a single flyer... found it was due to the firing pin having too much vertical movement...reduced the headspace (not necessary unless you want a one hole rifle)

I forget where, but there is a company that drills a hole in the bolt and pushes a pin through, to hold the firing pin down and eliminate the vertical movement.

Mine is simple- Stainless carbine, green tint laminated stock, folding rear factory sight, 4 hole scope base- blue #242 on the screws, Burris signature rings, Nikon 1.4-4.5 with Turkey plex crosshairs, extra mags.

I intend to add some no slip to the metal buttplate, replace trigger group, move front sling mount to stock instead of barrel/stock band. That is about it. An Intergrally suppressed 16 barrel would be nice but just something to think about- realizing the money is better spent elsewhere for me.

RatDrall...did it the redneck way....ground a taper to a hardened set screw... tapped it in place to adjust travel... buzzed it in place with the TIG... on the trigger group.... I made a fixture to change the angle of the hammer engagement notch (located the hammer and trigger locations and made pins so I could use a dial indicator to check for hammer movement indicating it was cocking or rolling off with sear movement)...there is a little boss you can remove to reduce the depth...deepen the trigger reset spring hole instead of cutting coils, and radius the tip of the trigger return plunger... polish where it contacts the trigger... drilled and tapped a hole to insert a cap screw for an extended mag release lever
