10 day backpacking trip

Looks like an awesome trip. I have been looking for some good backpacking pants. What brand are you wearing in the pics and how do you like them? Thanks!

I had no idea there were moose in Colorado. We have some in Northern Washington State. I didn't realize they went far south.

Excellent pics! The Uncompaghre National Forest is my favorite place in the world. I usually tromp around the Fall Creek trailhead going up into the ampitheatre. I went last June and there was tons of snowpack left over.

AWESOME!!!!

Thanks for the trip report. I have some maps for that area, but the trail was under 200" of snow so the trip got rescheduled indefinitely. Your pics reminded me that I need to move it back up the priority list! Any bear sign? Rumor has it there maybe be a few grizz hiding up there along with the views. Beautiful fish, beautiful country.

(Chiming in on the pants question, I have some Rail Riders weatherpants that I like. All nylon, so campfire sparks can leave little melted holes. The belt is also less than optimal for toting a sheath knife. The same company recently came out with "tactical" models that might be better in this regard. Reinforced knees and butt that are super tough. Other minuses are made in China and somewhat high cost, but I like them enough that I'd consider getting another pair if I ever wear out these.)

For actual hiking I wore The North Face paramount. I like these because they have large enough belt looks for the belt I wear. It is a 1 1/2 inch 5.11 trainer belt from Brigade Quartermaster. And then I have a different pair that I wore for around camp. These were from REI,called mojave. They are a 65/35 cotton-nylon mix. A little more durable for camp duties.

That area had record snow fall last year. And as of yet I have not seen any griz sign. But I will continue looking.:D
