My Verizon Treo 700W does all this in one package. Since you already have the cell phone, a PDA or Pocket PC will handle the rest. Except for the business cards. I still carry a few paper cards if the person I'm dealing with can't accept my e-card.

Does the Treo 700 run all of your Palm apps or is it Pocket PC?

Maybe adding 'My, what an impressive machine gun you are waving in my face, would you like to buy some of my rocket launchers with that fine bag of conflict diamonds??' to your memorised words would also be useful for the true entrepreneur?

Oh by the way...know how you feel about the pen...I carry a new micro collapsable Cross pen EVERYWHERE!....I'm glad someone else understands other than my wife...a $40.00 pen is worth every penny!

I cannot find this pen-can you (or anybody) provide a link?

I had a go at reading that and couldn't get through it. But I haven't tried chaining mysef to a radiator for five years - thanks for the tip Max:)

Maybe another phrase? "Surrender, or I will shoot you!"

Shortwave Radio: I sometimes NEED to hear something like my local news. Also needed for a bit of late night music when I can't sleep .......... ear buds to drown out the noise the couple next door is making at 3 am....... a flask of something 80 proof when all else fails..............

Shortwave Radio..............

Good one Maury - I sometimes take mine out into the desert, where there is very little 'noise' in the ether. I've picked up stations from all over the world as clear as if they were just down the road.

My sister travels to interesting places. Her essential 5 items:
SAK (+ extra tiny screwdriver for her specs and extra tweezers)
Roll duct tape
Some zip ties
SW radio
Tabasco sauce (no matter how bad the local food tastes she can spice it up and eat it).

The tabasco sauce is a very good idea...
I will add a bottle to my pack next time I travel. Soy sauce would be good too, if I can find a bottle not too bulky.
Thanks for the tip.

Antoine

I always carry a travel pillow or rolled up towel to support my neck on long trips.

Nigeria?!

I should think a BAR was called for. Impractical, possibly, but highly useful.

That's a Browning Automatic Rifle for the uninitiated.

Its 50 caliber ammunition makes stew out of whoever it's aimed at. :)

I call it good old-fashioned friendly persuasion. :D

Hand-held full auto in 30-'06 is quite enough recoil, thank you. LOL! (The BAR is not made in .50 caliber. If it were it would be a bit much.)

All good suggestions as I am a sales rep who travels quite a bit.
One needs these items such as business cards, good quality pens,Sak or Multi, calculator, pins etc, note pad, cell phone, daytimer, ruler, breath mints,Blistex,Photon II,Robaxacet, zinc losenges for throat,gloves,earphones.....good grief no wonder my "briefcase" has wheels!

Cheers,
Kap

.....all my luggage and my briefcase have wheels and locking handles.......the only way to go when one has a bad back or wants to prevent one.

The Kevlar was tried when I did Bujumbura in '99 and that was ultra hot, cosy with Malaria.

I am doing Maputo today and have included the mint chewing gum and the wheely case. Also I have acquired a money belt to hide ID and some U$D.

I am using some good running shoes.

As next week in Lagos: for the 419 I will see if any of the millions I have won and inherited is ready, like sh1t. As for being kidnapped I will have my old Zimbabwe passport, a citizenship so devalued it is more likely that any kidnapper would hire a taxi to take me back home.

Thanks again.

A business man in a dangerous place only really has to carry the following:

A stack of Benjamins
2 current credit cards with 10000.00 limits on each
a watch
a pen
a light
a cellphone
his sac.

I'd say get a Luxeon drop-in of some type for the Mini-Mag. Can still use normal bulbs if it fails (unlikely), uses normal batteries, much brighter, more durable, and uses less power.

I have one of the older TLE-5s in my MM. The newer ones are even better.
