Hey guys just joined today.

I just purchased and returned shortly later a SOG Vulcan knife. Good blade, wasn't really impressed with the handle at all and lock wasn't as good as Benchmade AXIS.

Look for recommendations for a similar knife size and price range so like $100-$125 and around 3.5 inches but less than that is okay.

Right now my first choice is the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 black G-10 black blade.

Any other recommendations?

*EDIT* I also want the blade to be black

You could build a custom griptilian from Benchmade on their website. Choose all aspects of the knife, handle color ,blade steel , blade finish, clip screw axis finish , blade shape, almost unlimited options.

There is one option that I wanted with this purchase. Black blade. Otherwise I would consider the custom Griptilian although they get a bit expensive comes out to be $145 without shipping when I make the one I want.

Also I could get a regular Griptilian for $78 dollars on Amazon :jerkit:

spyderco sage 1 is an excellent knife for around $100. has carbon fiber handles, s30v steel and just looks great.

First of all, Welcome to the Forums brother!

Secondly, I have to recommend the Zero Tolerance 350, S30V blade in black DLC. Feels great in the hand, and is slim so it feels good in the pocket too. I also recommend the ZT 200, which is bigger than the 350 but has amazing ergos. Also in black DLC but with a 154CM blade. ZT builds knives that will take a beating and laugh at you. Ive had both of these knives, one 200 and three 350s and Ill be ordering a 303 tomorrow. And both of these knives can be found brand new for about $120. Look up a member of the forum who goes by KershawGuy, he has great prices on these knives, and sells blems! Good Luck on choosing your next knife.

Look for a second hand SERE 2000. The last one I picked up was LNIB for about $100. Al Mar may not use the lastest/greatest steels out there, but VG-10 works very well in the real world. Besides, the fit and finish on any Al Mar I've handled is far and above any similarly priced knife.

Loooove the Para 2. The compression lock is so fun to play with and the knife is butter smooth an solid, but in my case I have small/medium hands and the para 2 has long handles so it looks huge and too tactical for me when I EDC it.

I got a brand new Al Mar SERE 2000 for $148 from BUD K catalog, Amazon fulfilled. It was the last one in stock at that time I believe I got a pretty great deal. Love the knife but a bit heavy for my EDC preferences, as I like to hang my EDC on my waistband and not all my pants are jeans or khaki.

Does Zero Tolerance make any models that aren't Assisted opening? I don't really have a need for emergency opening and I like to get accustomed to the feel of a manual knife.

So far Para 2 I think will be my next knife. I'd appreciate any other suggestions as well.

If I didn't already have one I would buy the Nemesis MANX NK-15B. Awesome knife but looking for something new. (I got the bug) :barf:

Zt's are nice as well, but be careful. Many of the ZT's are as heavy as the SERE if weight is an issue.

The Benchmade 15050-2 Bone Collector Lockback Folder is a great example in your price range. It's 3.5+" x .125" D2 blade in a lockback folder with cocobolo scales makes a nice package, even without the black blade the op wanted. Maybe the BC skull logo will offset the black blade's absence. The 755 MPR shown is available with a black blade (755BK), but it's too short and too expensive.

If you like the AXIS lock, you might give the Manix 2 a try - Stag Arms has a black blade version in S30V that's in your price range, and very nice, and it uses Spyderco's Ball Bearing Lock.

If I didn't have such big hands I would even consider the aluminum-handled M4 bladed mini exclusive at Knifeworks:

+1

I wish they had that in the regular size I would get it in a second.

The Benchmade McHenry Williams Knifeworks M390 edition is pretty awesome as well, albeit at a higher price.

The Para 2 is a great knife regardless of price. It just happens to be a pretty great value as well!
Here is mine hanging out at my old job:
