I am looking for a new EDC knife for between 100 and 150 bucks. I want something that is easy to carry comfortably, so around a 3'' blade would be preferable. I have looked at the BM 705, but what else should I consider. I want something that has good fit and finish as well as a rock solid blade, i hate it when i can wiggle a blade side to side, even a little. What do you guys think?

thanks
Dan

My favorite in that price range for a ~ 3" blade folder is the Benchmade 94x series, particularly the 941. I have a 705, and while a great knife, is a little on the chunky side for its size.

You might also want to look at the Buck Mayo (172), a bit on the high side of your price range (~$185, maybe cheaper if you look around) but a very well made production knife.

Spyderco Paramilitary -- 3 & 3/16" flat ground S30V blade, G-10 handles with dual steel liners. Strong lock (compression).

Just looking at this from a production/custom standpoint I'd save some money and pick up a BM Griptillian. The blade is a bit bigger I think. I've got more expensive knives but the Grippy is what I carry when I carry a production knife. I think the model is a 551 maybe. (Plain edge with a thumb stud) Or maybe a Ritter model although I haven't played with one yet. Yet. I also like the Paramilitary suggestion.

If i was you i'd go bigger and get the spyderco military. Its very surprisingly easy to carry and comfortable for such a large knife. Lightweight, great ergonomics, and 4" of s30v. But, the paramiliary is also a good suggestion. Cant go too wrong with a spyderco, or benchmade for that matter.

Benchmade 94* or 690. The 94* series has a slightly longer, slimmer blade and handle. The 690 has a thicker handle, classier appearance and heavier blade. Biggest practical difference is axis versus liner lock. Both are very solid knives in your price range.

The S2k, Millie and Axis AFCK are top notch EDC's, but all are well beyond 3".

For my $ the Paramilitary is hard to beat in the 3" EDC folder range, first rate materials and workmanship, hella sharp, with a well executed compression lock.

My current EDC is a BM 550. It is a great knife and it isnt really too big, but I would like something smaller to carry some of the time as well. I dont usually need that much knife for my purposes, especially just going to class and hanging out around campus. For my weekend trips the Grip will still be my carry knife, but for during the week i want something smaller

If you need smaller, what about the 770 or the 960 series from Benchmade? They have 2.8 inch or 3.125 inch blades respectively and would be very comfortable to carry.

For that kind of money do not rule out William Henry black and tan line. Step up to the next level of EDC. I am planning on a T10BT myself

Doh! Oh well, maybe DanMan can ease his length requirements a little to allow for these sweet, sweet blades.

I you want a minimum profile in that blade length check out the Kershaw Leek. It's hard to find anything slimmer at that blade length.

The Spyderco Delica is another outstanding option. It may be the lightest knife in its class.

Get the Cold Steel Vaquero Grande. It is more easy to carry than you think, and those serrations are the cat's @ss!!!!

For the umpteen times Spyderco Military.
Get the plain. You'll like the flat grind.

Well, since you said something lighter and smaller than your grippie...why not the mini grip? That is a very nice and easy to carry knife.

The 94x series has blades about the length of the griptillian, but the knife itself is a lot slimmer.

Alternately, for a gent's folder, look at Queen's line of gents folders at Cumberland Knifeworks.
