Hey guys. I've got about $100 to spend on myself for my birthday coming up. I have a few ideas about what I want, but wanted to see what you guys would spend it on. I'm hoping there will be a great idea that I haven't thought about. Right now I'm leaning towards a Maxpedition 10x4 bottle carrier, a Guyot bottle, and some purification tabs. What you you spend a bill on right now? :)

I would go for a new tarp. I have a poncho that I use for shelter when good weather is expected, but I want something big and roomy for when rain is called for...something like a 10x10'. Spent a couple of nights sleeping in a puddle because of my small area coverage...

A Snow & Nealley axe... :D

Penobscot Bay 18" kindling axe:

The things on the top of my list are a backpacking stove, fuel for said stove, and a good poncho (instead of using large garbage bags all the time).

A 6 pack, a hooker and a cheap cigar....Oh...you mean like outdoors type stuff. In that case a good axe, and a good tarp.

primitive man i think you missplaced a word there for under 100$...no worries i'll get it for ya.

personally though, my next purchases will be a good tarp, and a handful of scout sized firesteels.

EASY! Put it all in a gas fund-take your birthday or that weekend off-go play:D Then go again the next weekend, and the weekend after:thumbup: Really, if you've already got the supplies, then $100 = 4 trips (one whole month's worth of weekends:D) within approximately 100 miles of home. Picnic, camping, hiking, etc.

That's a brilliant suggestion. $100 can buy a lot of memories.

A Jarvenpaa utility puukko (been wanting to try one), a 19" wetterlings, and maybe a zebra pot.

Or if I was getting together pieces of kit from scratch...
Mora 2000, vic farmer, paracord, firesteel, nylon tarp.

hmmm. probably knifemaking and leatherworking supplies/tools.

but if i had to spend it on blades and gear, probably a mil surp pack ( i really need a pack), a wetterlings mini, and maybe one of those SS pots from bens backwoods. Thats all under $100.

Goatariba,

I stand corrected!

That is exactly what I meant.

And I forgot, a $1 condom (for water storage)

haha no problem. i figured there were only three options.
1-you have incredibly low standards. even in hookers.
2-you simply made a mistake.
3-you're american and the canadian dollar is doing SO poorly that i'd need multiples of your budget.

i went with number two.

What kinda gear do you already have? Is there anything you "need"? If not, use the gear you have and as has already been said, use the $100 for gas and just get away and relax.

I also think that the trip-fund is a great idea. I've fallen into the trap myself of spending too much money on "gear" many a time in the past. I've been making a conscious effort to get more dirt-time with the things I have rather than seek out the latest and greatest stuff.

you can get a good used alice pack on ebay for about $30, throw in a good poncho for $50 and the guyot bottle and hit the trail.

A Himalayan Imports khukuri. There are often specials on the sub-forum in that price range.

Knife maker's/seller's choice. Pick a vendor you can trust, Storl, Christoph, Breeden. Send $100.00 with a letter describing yourself and ask the vendor to put a gift together for you.

Nessmuk trio - SAK+mid sized fixed blade+small ax or hatchet

New digital camera to post pics

Something from Blind Horse knives. If I'd had an extra $100 at Blade, I'd have gotten one of their bushcraft blades.
