I was hoping to have something special to share for this momentous occasion, so here's a picture of a small hawksbill neck knife I just finished. Comments and criticism welcomed!

Looks great! Your knives are getting better and better. I love the matching carvings on the blade and handle. Definitly cool.

Geez Richard, that really is a wonderful knife. I love the claw like look you gave it.

As far as criticism is concerned, couldn't you have found something nicer to put it on for the picture? I know, pretty damn pathetic, huh? As you can tell I can't find a darn thing I don't like about the knife. Great job.

Criticism? Naaaahhh! Couldn't even if I wanted to! Tooo Schweeet! That thing is organic - first thought when saw it was talon from a metallic bird-of-prey in Sci-Fi movie!
You definately got Neil's attention - he has this fetish for curved blades. Bet it almost comes alive in your hand - fantastic work!

It's tough to find something distinctive and handsome nowadays. I think you've done it. Very nice

Bill,

I like biomechanical art like HR Gigers work. I ALSO have a thing for Hawksbill shaped knives. Richard has a winner with this one as far as I'm concerned

VERY nice. Here's my question: What did you do to get the dark coating? Is it a patina? I like how it's darker and lighter according to the relief areas.

Really like what I'm seeing. If I wasn't 300% over budget for this year already.....well you know. Keep up the good work.

Thanks very much, folks. You kind words are much appreciated by this newbie maker. This one is O-1 steel, since I can heat-treat that myself and I like the idea of "sole authorship". I'm also partial to the patina carbon steel gets with age. The carving was done with files, a moto-tool with grinding stone attachments, and a lot of sandpaper. The carved areas are dark because I left them that way after the heat-treat. It makes the carving look a lot deeper than it really is. Thanks again!
