I love the outdoors, and I have a lot of memories, but a few stand out in my mind.
This is a picture of me and my two brothers (I'm the younger one). This picture is a foundational memory for many other childhood memories. The picture was taken at the Jack's Fork River in SE Missouri. Canoeing was our main family vacation, which carried on up until a few years ago. Now, we are spread out across the country (Oregon, Missouri, Maryland), so I like this picture more than ever. I look forward to creating new memories with my family now. Unplugging from the world and getting outsid with my family was such an amazing time! I'm lucky to have a wife that also loves getting out into the wild. Hopefully, my son (and future) children, will have such great memories based upon God's creation. My dad was pretty sentimental, and I think I got that from him moreso that my other brothers. We each had our own "family canoe", our own "family walking stick", our own swimming hole named after us on the river, our own creek, our own campsites. We all had our responsibilities on the campsite as well. So a lot of my outdoor knowledge has roots from when I was younger. I remember using my first knife to whittle a hotdog cooking stick. We learned a lot about wildlife too, learning how to identify and deal with different types of snakes, trees, and other animals. We also learned how to leave a low impact on the environment! Which is something I really appreciate now. I have a huge curiousity when it comes to plants and animals now, which I know comes out of spending time searching for things close by the campsite.
The knife I EDC right now is a Leatherman Charge Xti. I love it, but I've really been wanting to try out something without pliers for a while. I'd chose the red farmer!
Thanks for your generosity, it was fun to take some time to think back to these memories!
EDIT>
I thought I'd add a few more pictures for fun:
This is one of the "brother sticks":
This isn't the best pic, but this is me and Titus in our first canoe "trip":
And of course, my son with his firesteel!
