I purchased a lovely custom hunter made by "Larry Dula" of Lenoir N.C. The steel used is "1011" - which I've never heard of. I was told that some West Virginia knifemakers think highly of it. Anyone familiar with this maker or steel?? Dula makes more traditional knives for re-inactors and Mountain Man types. This one is a modern hunter/skinner with up-swept blade, hidden tang with camel bone handle and silver hilt. Quality seems pretty good and the sheath by "Sherry Lott" is really nice. Any info on the steel would be appreciated. Knife is razor sharp but most any steel will sharpen. Thank you in advance for taking the time to reply. Best regards and have a great day.

I'm sure that's an error since AISI grade 1011 would make a poor blade. You should check with the maker.

Where did you get the knife from? I live near Lenoir. Does he have a website?

Blgoode, I purchased the knife at the Richmond Virginia Gun Show over the weekend. The maker is "Larry Dula" from Lenoir N.C. I only chatted with him while admiring the knife. He seems to make some pretty good knives. I'm sure he mis-spoke or I mis-heard the steel type. And I suapect the sheath was pretty expensive too as it's a great quality sheath by "Sherry Lott". It's much too pretty a knife to waste all that labor on if it's junk steel. I guess I'll have to look up his phone number and chat with him. His Hawks were quite nice and very authentic for re-inactors and his traditional Mountain Man knives were quite good also.

I have bought sev. knives and hand axes from Larry and have known him for a couple of years. He does make top quality knives, one of which I carry in my SASS matches.I know that you prob. paid top price but rest assured you got top quality.:)
