102 or 212?

Wow.
I didn't realize SK had either of those knives still in stock.
And on sale?
Those are 2 of my favorites for sure. Great buys if anybody is looking.

My favorites too. Great deals on two great knives. That we may never see again.

I decided if I was going to buy a 212, I should at least get one that had a chance of being used (red lucite isn't quite my style...burgundy micarta, on the other hand, is totally me).

I love the blade on the 212 but find the handle oversized, the knife just feels too bulky on my belt and the proportions of the handle throw the overall looks off for me.

In stock form the 102 I say is an excellent EDC blade and you'll love it.

I rehandled my 212 in stacked leather, but am now planning to rehandle it again and take it a completely different direction.

Hickory n steel Hickory n steel Is there a picture of the stacked leather 212 somewhere? If it came out nice, it would be a shame to take it apart. It’s the only stacked leather 212 in existence. Lol.

The handle on my jigged Buffalo one is taller but thinner and it handles best of all of mine. The red lucite is similar. If I were going to re-handle one I’d go in that direction. Tall flat and skinny.

There is, but it did not come out that nice really.
I took too much off of the pommel.
What I've got planned will be another one of a kind 212.

My first sheath knife I found when I was a kid. No handle guard or pommel. It’s been through 4 or 5 replacement handles over the last 35 years and it’s never been quite right. So I feel for you, and look forward to seeing the finished result when you are happy with it.

212 is perfect for me ,Tyd handle is just right and reminds me of an old knife from the 60 s..

The d2 seems to do well in the atlantic salt air where I live, minimal care is all its bad and no rust issues yet.the only Steel I've had rust issues with here is the ats-34 .

I have a 102 "Woodsman"; I don't see why a bigger fixed blade would ever be needed, unless it is a bowie.

The exaggerated upswept clip point is actually a detriment for cleaning animals: When I'm trying to cut the belly open, that tip sweeps back into the cavity and punctures organs. It looks cool though!

If I ever get another one, it's going to be cocobolo Vanguard; drop point is where it's at for a hunting knife, and Buck's looks good.

By the way, don't stop hunting because of back issues. Just stop hunting deer. Deer hunting is too much damn work. Squirrel hunting is what I like. There is plenty of prey, no competition and the guns are gentle. I do it with a precharged pneumatic air rifle, 22 caliber. My favorite shot was a standing offhand shot on a limb chicken 45 yards away, way up in the canopy of the Shawnee National Forest last summer.

If you're not into air rifles, a nice .22LR with standard velocity ammo would be plenty of medicine and quiet enough not spook every other nutter within a quarter mile.

Squirrels are easy to get out of the woods, and you'll have a proper reason to use your new Buck(s). ;-)

I got my 212 today (well, it got here yesterday, I just opened the box a few minutes ago). :poop: As soon as the return label is processed, it will be gone. There is an obvious gap between the guard and blade, leaving the tang exposed...obvious, as in I noticed it before I removed the knife from the box. IMO, it should never have left BUCK like that (except, maybe, at a drastically reduced price as a blem).

Disappointing, to say the least.

My red lucite w2 was the same way. I wonder if the material shrunk after assembly? It will come back perfect. Mine did.

That was the last one from this seller; so exchange is not an option...I'm considering whether I like it enough to send in for warranty repair vs return for refund.

I liked your previous response better...but knowing it was not uncommon, and Buck fixed it to your satisfaction, has me reconsidering the return. Maybe I'll see if the seller will cover the trip.

I'd bet if you just contacted Buck directly, they would get you a prepaid postage slip.
If you sent direct to Buck they will fix it, and you would be sure to keep your knife that is becoming scarce.
Unfortunately, it's the busy time of year for them so the turnaround time may be longer than normal.

I would rather have a knife that was repaired by Bucks warranty dept, than just a replacement anyway.

The replacement might be the same, the repaired knife will be perfect.
