Hi, I'm still new at this forum, so I apoligize if I'm doing anything wrong. On my next post, I will be putting up pictures of this knife, the pictures may turn out huge or small...its my first stab at this, so I'm trying. I have this 105 pathfinder. I believe its some type of stag. It only states buck on the tang.
I was wondering how you tell if a model is pre 1961? Is this a rare knife? it has been used & sharpened quite a bit, but pretty cool looking. I've also never seen a hole in the end like this one has....any help is appreciate as always.

OK, how can I post a photo from 'my pictures' on my computer?? Told you all I'm new & slow at this!

You could go to tinypic.com , click browse, select the picture you want, then click Upload now, them copy and paste the IMG url here in your post. It's really quite easy.

Thank you very much............here goes...

See, there it is. Nice Knife!! Some guys like you to size them down a bit, something to do with bandwitts or something.

Thank you very much....next thing I learn will be sizing the photo...I appreciate all your help.

The personal was the 118.
I would say it is rare for someone to have that knife in that condition today.
Very nice! Thanks for the pics ;)

Thanks for the info....what is a personal blade..the style ?
Is this knife rare at all?

Tiger, post the length of the blade from tang to tip. I have the lengths of the 100 series in a post and might be able to tell. 'cept that is a really old knife and length might vary

Maybe close tho...

Hello and welcome to the Forums Tiger! It took my several years to figure out how to post pics and you got it all done in a day! :D

I am guessing that it is a 118 Personal, due to the upswept point. Some of those old 105 and 118's can start to look the same though. The handle is elk. IN the mid 1950's Buck stopped using Lignum Vitae because it was too unstable. He switched to stag, (elk), and Ebony. Your knife would have been made from about 1956 to 1961.
The hole in the pommel was either a special request by a customer or the customer did it himself. All Buck knives were mail ordered back then and there were often times special requests made. One little known fact is that you could order any knife from the Buck catalog, and have it made longer. It only cost $2 per inch.
I see a lot of knives that are not as long as they are supposed to be. Just means they were ordered longer.
I hope this helps.

Awesome info Joe!!!

BTW: I was a member of the Lignum Vitae fraternity until the proctors shut us down for being too unstable. So I can relate.
Now I am a member of Damascus Koa Chapter 110.

Ha Ha...I crack myself up. I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your cocktail waitress.

I appreciate all this info so much. I really do. I'm in the process of ordering some books so I can get up to speed on things. Blades guide...etc..I've dabbled in bucks for years, but would like to get more serious & enjoy the hobby more. Does this knife have good value to it? How does one tell a pre 1961 knife to a production post 61 knife?
