Well,I'm not big on yakin' so it's taken me a couple of years to get to a grand.
I'm mostly an I'll take it poster,& lurker, but love the WSS forums the most here on BF.(next to the EX.) ;)
I have learned a few things & do love getting out to the woods.
I've been camping since I was a kid & thank the folks that raised my sister, brother & myself for our love for the great outdoors.
I'm a truck camper, but love to wander the woods for hours on end wherever I'm camping at the time.
My avatar is the view from one of my favorite camps high up on the side of a ridge on the east slopes of the cascades.
I've seen muley's,elk, bobcat, coyotes, hares, marmots, grouse & many, many chipmunks from that camp & very few people.
The morels are so thick up there my brother & I named it morel camp just so we'd know which one we were talking about when planning our next outting.
There's also northern lights camp, hidden camp, happy camp & turkey camp.Great memories in all of them.
Anyho,I just wanted to show my appreciation for BF in general & especially the WSS subforums,
so I've made up an ever popular,or not,Altoids Tin Survival Kit for my 1 grand giveaway.
There's a compass,mini LED,fatwood,jute twine,ferro rod,striker,snare wire,strips of inner tube & an Allen Newberry Altoids Tin Knife with
kydex sheath.
The compass is a Brunton glow in the dark zipper pull type. The led is from countycomm & comes with a clip that I took off so the light would fit in the tin,I'll send it with the kit.The batteries are replaceable also. The rubber strips are bicycle innertube & will burn even in the rain like the fatwood. The striker I made from a hacksaw blade & put a patina on with mustard.I dipped the handle end in plastidip for a better grip while striking the rod.I think I got the rod from going gear. The jute twine is great for taking a spark, just seperate the strands, add a bit of fatwood shavings & throw a spark at it.
The knife is from a great maker here on BF,Allen Newberry & is made of 1095.It comes with a sheath if you(the winner)want to carry it out of the tin.
They don't fit in the tin,but I'm including a 4" ceramic rod & 30' of OD paracord along with the led clip.
I'll throw in some extra fatwood too & whatever else I think would help in a survival situation.
I'm including an older Vic.Huntsman, some orange tether cord, water purification tabs & a pouch to carry it all in also.
So,just post I'm in & your post # in this thread will be your number for the giveaway.
I'll use a random number generator using the number of posts in this thread.
Cutoff will be next friday sept.2nd.at 6:00pm western time.I think that works out to 9:00 pm for you hurricane dodgers back east.
I was stationed in Jville,NC & dodged a few myself,so my thoughts go out to those affected by Irene.
Thank you Spark & all the folks that make this forum as good as it is.
Now for the pics...
