Hey guys, here is one I just forged out of 1060, 10 3/4'' blade, I like this stuff.
Clay coated HT, this is just a 180 grit finish and a 2 minute etch, I think I'll take this one all the way up to 600 grit (wow) and see what it looks like ;)

thanks for lookin, Don hanson lll

Great stuff, Don. What plans do you have for the handle and fittings?
haven't thought to much on that end yet but most likely damascus fittings and either mammoth or stag handle.

I know what you mean. I say go with stag, but danged if I'm not really partial to it these days. I need to get some mammoth myself. Finding rounds just isnt that easy!

Wow!! That is a great-looking blade. Is it going to St. Louis with you?

Mete, Thats a saw tooth.

Don, I've been real pleased with the 1060 serries but really can't figure out why when I get it in different sizes why one is called 1060 and the another called 1065. Tai Goo has really been hooked on the stuff for a couple years now. How close did the pattern come out to how you applied the clay?

Thanks for the comments guys.
jhiggins- when I use mammoth I use scales and a mortis fit.
Burchtree- yes I plan to bring this to St.louis, hopfully I wont sell it before.
mete- nope not a serrated, but I guess the hard/soft zone is kind of serrated.
Raymond- the hamon did follow the clay very close. closer than the higher alloy steels I've been using like W2, 1084 and L6, I realy like this 1060 and this is the first time I've used it.

Don't listen to these guys Don, they're just buttering you up. We both know that blade should never see the light of day. So I will offer, kindly, once you have a handle on it, to give this knife a quiet, respectful hiding from the critical public eye - right here in my own home. Yes, I know I'm unusually generous but that's just how my Mother taught me.

:D

Thanks for sharing!
