is this good knife steel if it is how do I heat treat? also can any one tell me about water jet cutting was think about getting a sheet of this ad having some knive cut out og it thanks chris
It's a great knife steel. my EDC boker stockman has C75 carbon blades in it. Which pretty much a Euro 1075. take to critical, then quench in a proper quench oil. A temper at 400ºF for 2x2 hours will produce a very nice blade
I have had a bunch water jet cut. Can be pricey for the first due to setup costs. To be worthwhile I only waterjet complex shapes that require alot of grinding, simple shapes I can cut on my bandsaw.
I waterjet 3/16" 1075 for throwers. Most waterjets cut holes slower than the profile (in inches per minute), so if your design has tons of holes (in the handle tang, for example), it will be a pretty expensive cut.
I heat-treat in a little propane forge, quench in parks 50 oil, and temper in a toaster oven with PID control.
