Hey folks, I ordered 6 feet of 1080 from Admiral Steel. When I opened the tube the steel was marked 1075. I didn't call them back and complain because I figured there would not be much difference between the two of them. Was I correct? I haven't forged a knife from the stuff yet but I plan on using a piece of it to make a stock removal knife. Give me some pointers please......

I'm going to second what Richard said above, his knives in 1075 are very very tough and will hold an edge like that has to be witnessed to be believed.

You should be good to go:thumbup:

I had a piece of Admiral 1075 tested a few years ago. (I was suspicious because the project I used it in didn't harden as expected.)
It came back around .67 carbon. Which Admiral said was still "In Spec."
If you plan to forge this material and plan to keep it in the fire a while, you'll loose some carbon. Just let me say .65 does not behave like .86 or .80 in HT.
I'm not saying don't use it. Just be aware you may need a faster quench for one thing.
Just be aware and plan accordingly.

Personally, I won't use the stuff. I can think of no good reason to use .67 carbon over a piece of material tested at .86 like Kelly Crupples sells.
