1080 & 15n20 help

I'm fairly new to blade smithing and ive used a bit of 1080 & 15n20 for damascus but im wondering if my quenching in used 5w 30 is hurting my metal more than anything else. Im wide open to suggestions.

Stop using the used motor oil..Its not hurting it but your not getting a good quench or near full hardness with it..If you need to use a oil you can find at wal mart use Canola or peanut oil heated to about 120°...
