I have made and carried tomahawks but found the straight handle tended to loosen with use and was a little clumsy in the hand. I built one of these to carry in my day pack and used it heavily this fall cutting small trees and disjointing bones when butchering deer, I was well pleased with the results. There were several things that were important to me in an axe that I would carry in my day pack every time I went into the woods: I wanted about 2 inches of the leading edge heat treated to Rc 58-60 with the rest of the head somewhat softer to use the peen as a hammer. I wanted an axe that would hold an edge as well as my knife even thought it would have to be sharpened with a stone and not a file. I wanted the edge much finer than most axes thinking that it would only be used to cut small trees and branches. I wanted the head thicker near the handle eye so it would work well for splitting kindling too. This design has fit my needs.

Forged from 1 inch 1080 bars stock
Differentially heat treated
Hickory handle modifies from a hatchet handle
Length from the butt to the top of the head: 12 3/4 inches
Cutting edge:2 3/4 inches
Weight: 1# 10 oz
Leather edge guard, no belt loop

I have been waiting to buy one of your offerings for a while now. This will be the one. I'll take it. Sending PP info.

Thanks, Kevin

I would also like to know the price and would be interested if more were made. Thx. Sharp looking hatchet/hawk.

Very nice. A little constructive criticism though- the thickness near the edge appears a little thick for finer work and cutting down small trees and such. If you make another, I would reccomend a thinner profile. A good example would be a Grandsfords bruks. Still, very nicely done. I would buy one if you made another and I had the money :D
