I recently bought some 1075/1080HR steel from Admiral steel. Right after I bought it online I went back and looked at the specs and realized it is not annealed. I know some steels can be annealed and hardened several times(01). Has any of you bought this 1080 from Admiral? did you get good results after you annealed it? I've been wanting to try 1080, Mr. Kevin Cashen had mentioned it when I had threaded about 5160.

Admiral 1075/80 is good stuff.... for forging or stock removal. I used that exclusively for a year until I got a hold of Aldo's 1084. Their 5160 is good and cheap too.

so not being annealed is it tough to grind

Not necessarily true. After forging, I simply normalize. (air cool) ... and never have a problem grinding, filing or drilling.

The only time I find annealing necessary is when my stock is 1/8" and thinner. It seems to get a hard outer layer, perhaps from cooling to fast due to low mass.
