1084 hardening.

I think I have all the information I need to get more consistent results. I have a blade I can test right now and I have had good edge holding results on a kitchen knife I ground to .005 before sharpening.
Thanks everyone.

I recently purchased an Evenheat oven. I have been doing my 1084 at 1500* and quenching in an actual quench oil warmed to 120* with excellent results. I also normalized 3 times prior.

Here's what the inside of Aldo's 1084 looks like with different equipment(I use a gas forge & pyrometer) but about the same heat treat(normalized 3 times: 1550, 1550, and 1500; quenched at 1525):

Top piece is part of a Nicholson file, bottom pieces are both halves of the 1084

edit: quenched in canola oil.
