1084 test coupon grain

I did some heat treat on 4 knives and think I may have overheated. I did a test coupon the same way and broke it to see the grain. Can anyone elaborate if this is good or not?

Its hard to tell from a picture but I think it looks fine. That matte, almost sandblasted finish is fine grain. The striations are likely from how you broke it.

You could make a blade and test it out cutting wood, rope, trying to shave a brass rod. You'll have a good idea how your edge will hold up.

The grain should be so fine that you CANT see the individual grains with your eye
