1095 @ 63 HRC too hard?

I would tend to think so. I like 1095 at about 56-59RC, personally. This is as a user, tho, not a knife-maker...

All,

Is 1095 at 63 HRC too hard for an 8" bladed Leuku at 5mm thick?

Thanks,

Nick
Depends on what he is doing to get that hardness, and how thick or thin it is behind the edge.

Then it depends how you are going to use it.

If he is doing some killer heat treating, 63 would be awesome in the right hands.

But 63 HRC is definitely pushing the limits

Might want to be on the safer side unless the maker is confident.

Sounds perfectly lovely to me !
What do I know though I would probably grind 2 mm off the thickness soon as I got it into my shop.
