I asked OKB about getting the 13's in 1095 and he came back and said that all the US made ones already are. How could no one have noticed this?!

Well I am guessing that the one that I recently got is 1095 so i'm going to be modding, stripping and putting a patina on this little awesome knife!!!

So here goes

The "new" packaging"

Back side. This is the one that OKB said is 1095

I know I've seen modding similar to this but don't remember if i've see taking the finger guard all the way off like this.

Stripper soak.

I'll post more pictures as I take them in the process. I think the soak it going to take a while because it's cold outside and I don't know what kind of coating is on the blade.

Sweet! I just ordered one from a vendor, kinda hope it's 440 tho, my daughter has the 440 that she paid for herself, I just want one of each for myself.

So the coating came off really easily. I've had it wrapped up in a paper towel with very little as for results. Now I've got some mustard mix sitting on it. Hopefully soon she'll have a nice patina.

Good news though; IT IS CARBON STEEL!!!!!!!!!

WTF?! Are you serious? Wow! I'm gonna order so many of those little buggers it's simply not funny.. This is fantastic news!

Hang on. Wait. Still wait. Yes. So. These little bastids have some sort of clear coating on them? My head is spinning. What the hell is going on? Typo? So there was NO TYPO on the catalog?! Is there a 'slack jaw' emoji I can use? Did I just wee myself a little bit? Is Gerber now good again? Ok. Scratch that last comment. I'm a bit ahead of myself... 1095 slot fillers. OH YEAH BABY!

Question mark. Question mark. Exclamation mark. Question mark. Exclamation mark..

Cool, didn't know they come in 1095 now. I have a 440 BK13 that rides along with my BK4, I want to switch it out for a 1095 one now. Mm, sharp goodness...

Nice! The first BK13 with a patina. And the first BK13CP mod.

Doesn't the CP just mean Clam Pack as in the packaging? Like some other KaBars come in a box or Clam Pack.

Nice work Nick! Congrats on firsties!

I didn't think of that but you must be right. I dont remember them calling it BK13CP before. I was thinking it is the new model number. So sounds like there is no way to know if you are buying a stainless or 1095 model unless you can see if its in the new or old package.

I guess eventually the places selling them will figure this out and label them appropriately. I bet Tomars will have it up and marked as 1095 soon.

The CP does mean "Clam Pack". One of the recent clearance offerings on Kabar's website was the 9166CP which was the USN MK2 9/11 10th Anniversary commemorative in a clam pack with the CP as part of the model number. The 9166 came in a box. Tomars still lists the 13 as 440A under the model number BK13CP. They would not have updated the model number and not updated the steel type. I think it is one of those trivial things that no one paid attention to as any reference was just to BK13.
