I'm about to pull the trigger on a beautiful knife done in 1095, hardened to 60. I'm familiar with 1095 blades in the common 56-58 hardness I usually see, but I've never had a 1095 blade at 60.

What can I expect? I'd assume it would basically have the toughness of standard 1095, but with more edge-holding ability? If pushed too hard will I be seeing rolling like regular 1095? Or chipping?

Thanks very much, sirs.

At that hardness I don't think it would roll, you would be looking at chipping. However there are a lot of factors like edge grind and thickness that would affect its performance.

I have 1095 at 65 HRC, it holds an edge extremely well, not chippy at all. Anything under 62 is too soft, IMO.
