This is the first one like this ive made with the leather washer handle!!

OAL- 10"

blade- 5 3/8" long, .200" thick, 1" wide at the guard, and a long ricasso, allowing you to choke up on the blade for fine cuts

steel- Aldo's Awesome High Performance 1095, Forged, with in-house differential heat treatment which includes double normalize, double anneal, double edge quench, and triple draw, for a high performance blade, that holds a great edge, and yet is easy to sharpen!

grind- a full convex grind, with distal taper, sharpened on a Norton Fine India stone with micro bevels, to an agressive razor edge

finish- etched 600 grit finish, with hamon or temper line.

handle- leather washer handle, with black linen micarta spacers

guard- 1/4" stainless guard, nicely contoured to feel good on the finger, for greater control, and saftey in challenging situations, and 1/4" stainless butt-cap

sheath- 11oz leather, hand stitched, clean, hot-waxed, with retention strap

blade fully tested for edge retention and tip strenth before finishing! The blade is subjected to an edge flex test, where the edge is flexed over a 1/4" brass rod from both sides to check for toughness. These blades will generally make 130 {at a minimum} slicing cuts in 1/2" manilla rope in my shop on a scale, without requiring more than 35lbs of force to complete each cut, and will typically still shave hair from my arm at the end of the 130 cuts! {your performance may vary due to rope consistancy, sharpening teqnique, sharpening stone condition, and cutting skill} note that they will continue to cut the rope, but I stop cutting and counting when they quit shaving. The heat treated blades are dropped point first on a concrete floor from a distance of roughly 4 feet before finishing, the blade must exhibit no substansial damage to pass the "concrete floor test". After a blade passes these tests, only then does it go to the finishing stage.

Great job Joe ! Your talent for knifemaking seems limitless.
Truly a Great knife here.

That stacked leather handle and old school sheath with strap makes for a very cool package.

That thing looks bad to the bone. Ready for just about anything.

Really cool piece, as a thought, maybe make the guard a little smaller, not as long. what do you think? Great looking knife.

Thanks guys!!

Cbach- i have had enough close calls that i really like a substantial guard, i am kind of fond of my fingers and would like to keep them! If you would like one with a smaller guard i would be happy to make you one though

I like that thought, let me think about it!! :-) Resistance is futile...when it comes to knives!

You are doing great work Joe: I sincerely appreciate reading about knife makers who test the performance qualities of their knives and are not bashful about sharing information.

Right-on !
I have been posting repeatedly about how well Joe's knife function, how natural they are in hand, etc., etc. I cannot seem to stop being so enthusiastic. But, who am i ? just an addicted knife collector and avid hunter.
But, an endorsement from Mr. Ed Fowler, WOW ! This does count !
I have 5 of Joe's knives and a 6th one coming up some time soon, so i won't buy this one even though i want to.
But, why are the rest of 'you guys' sitting on the sidelines just looking at it ? I don't get it. Knives from other makers that do not work anywhere near as well as Joe's but cost 2-3x as much, get snapped up.

Thanks For the kind words Ed! And thanks for allyour help and support!

Roland, thank you also for your support and kind words! Ed has been a great help for this past year, constantly pushing me to push my knives to see what more i can get from them.

I am very happy to have both endorsments! My mentor and customers!!!
