This is a new design for me, a Carter style necker in thin stock 1095 for a very lightweight light use utility neck knife that is light enough to not be a pain in the neck!!

OAL- 6 7/8"

blade- 3 3/8" long, .061" thick at the spine, .030" measured 1/4" behind the edge, and .012" thick at the shoulder of the edge. 7/8" wide

steel- 1095 high carbon, differentially hardened. heat treat includes a double normalize, double anneal, triple edge quench { most of the blades width on these narrow blades} and triple temper for a really nice performing blade that takes and holds a great edge and yet is easy to resharpen!

grind- a full flat grind, sharpened on a Smiths 325 diamond hone with micro bevels, to an agressive razor edge

finish- 400 grit finish on the bevels under scotchbrite belt finish

handle- Cocobolo scales with peened brass pins. handle is finished with 200 grit with the lines running across the handle so it looks good yet isn't slick

sheath- .060 thick kydex with small black leather rivets. stripped paracord, easily adjustable, and I can cut it for my new safety feature if you like.

weight - 2.65 ounces for the total package of knife, sheath and cord.

I did a few videos on youtube on my 2 new lines of neckers:

to explain what I am after in a neck knife https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cgJQJY-gAU

and a destructive test of the Carter style necker https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONC3lOkoC9c

Hey Joe...I loved the videos and you necker concert. I will keep you on my radar for a future necker. Very impressive.

Mike

Thanks, I enjoyed the videos
Nice to see what a maker is thinking. I was impressed by how well your knife held up to the destruction test.

I want to tell you, Joe Calton knows 1095 steel. Takes a great edge and holds it for a long time. The kicker is is is so easy to sharpen. These are gonna sell Joe, prepare yourself... Russ

I have one of Joe's neckers (the other version), but it weighs about the same, and has about the same grind profile. It's a crazy useful knife. It's ridiculously light but still offers a full grip and cuts really well with the thin edge.

Thanks guys!! I will try to do more of the videos!

russ, ok, ill get another batch going..... :}

camber- great to hear that you are enjoying that one!!
