1095 or O1

1095 is one of the favorite steels for making fire strikers for flint+ steel fire starting.

Thanks for that link (flatground.com). I have been looking for a good source of 3/4" round stock in O-1. That's my favorite to forge from. Wish I could find 1085 and/or 1095 that way at a good price.

Well i have some good news. i went to a local tooling shop. thay make all kinds of things out of tool steel. i introduced my self and told the man what i do and that i was looking for some o1 or realy any tool steel that is local. he got excyted that i made knives and told me about this place where thay get there steel from that way kinda far from me but has good prices. hel told me the to call him when i order from them and he will pick it up for me when he gets his stuff. also thay have a very nice heat treating set up that i think he would let me use. I was about to leave when he call me back and sead, lets see if we can find anything scraps of tool steel for you to try. we looked around and could not find any 01 but he found a great pice of L6 that is maybe 9" X 1" x 1/4", he just let me have it. Is L6 a good steel for knife blades, im going to try and grind it and make a blade out of the full lenght.

What would you charge me for a length of the t14, and how much would it be to ship 20lb to me ant 84601. i live in utah. i dont have a forge setup yet but i think i can con a frend to do it for me on a trade for a knife. hehehe do you think he would know whet he was getting into.

How about $1 per pound?
Shipping would be around 20 bucks for the whole bar. I have one I just cut in half. I could send you one of the halves if you don't want the whole bar.
Does your friend have a power hammer? If you're going to be forging this out using a sledge hammer, be prepared to be there for awhile. :D
BTW, the teeth have to be ground off before you flatten, or you'll have hundreds of little cold shuts on it.
