1095 question

True there's not a lot of options. But there are options you can buy today from a reasonable price to big dollars.

Unfortunately there aren't a lot of 1095 options in the modern folder market. I, like you, think it should be used more.

Funny enough, amongst the bickering, nobody seems to have asked WHY you want 1095? Perhaps there's a particular characteristic that can be found in a more readily available steel.

For instance: there's plenty of high carbon tool steels being used that will take a patina. You just don't see examples with a patina often because they mostly sit in a safe rather than in a pocket like Grandpa's Old Timer.

^ Excellent question!

We would enjoy seeing what you finally get.
Please post when you can.

First off thanks for all the opinions and suggestions. I like 1095 because it is easy to sharpen and holds an edge for a while and I love a good patina on a blade.

Why is that other steel superior to 1095 ?
If 1095 is what you want because of what it is, than nothing would be better.
Toughness, edge stability, edge retention, and at least equal in all other categories, including ease of sharpening. The only reason to "want" 1095 over 52100 is cost.
Get your hands on a quality 52100 blade and see for yourself.
