Good Morning,
Today I have one Work Hawk mini, made from 1095 and heat treated professionally by Peter's Heat Treat. This is a one-of-a-kind tomahawk. The mini was designed for use with paracord wrap, but this one was modified to allow for a hidden tang fully encapsulated in terotuf all the way around, unlike my usual handle scales which are bolted and epoxied with the full tang exposed on the edges. The result is an incredibly light feeling handle with excellent shock absorption. The tang extends down to approximately an inch from the bottom of the handle, and is actually two tangs held in place with the best grade epoxy available (G-flex) for this type of application. The terotuf handle is three 1/4" pieces sandwiched around the tang, the center of which runs up in between the two tangs providing an incredible amount of surface area for the epoxy.
The mini is a sub-1lb tomahawk that can chop but also cut, slice, shave, chisel, prep food, etc. It does everything a large knife can do, except it's easier (and safer in my opinion) to use on many small tasks that don't require a long blade.
Here are two videos of earlier model hawks.
Some 2x4 chopping:
Some spoon carving:
This shows the bevel angle and spike bevel. The spike is unsharpened with no edge. It could easily have an edge added, but it wouldn't have any trouble piercing at the current thickness either.
Steel: 1095 @ 58RC, heat treat by Peter's. The best.
Thickness: 0.25"
Weight: 15.6 ounces, the sheath adds another ounce.
OAL: 11.4"
Cutting edge: 2.6", sharp as hell
Handle: "black" Terotuf, shows up gray, finished at 320grit to retain tack. Olive Atwood 550 cord.
Stamped with "PARK," "1095," and an American flag.
$285 SPF via Paypal Goods and Services (includes insured USPS Priority Mail to the CONUS). First "I'll take it" gets it. You must be 18+ to purchase. You are responsible for compliance with your local laws.
