So here is my situation. A knife maker that I have been talking to told me a good starting material is 1095, what he diddnt tell me is how difficult it is to find someone to heat treat it. I have been making this knife for my best friend that is gettin married in a month and would like to give it to him as a wedding gift. Is there anyone here that would charge me to heat treat this blade. I am desperate. PLease help me someone!

Thank you all. I have contacted Peters Knife Making and they can do it but their knife guy (Brad) is on vacation for the time being. Nick, How much would you charge? Thanks again guys for the quick replies!

IF you fill out your profile you may find a knifemaker close to you to do the HT, I am in Southern Calfornia and I can do it you can do at my place.

I'm not set up to take advantage of 1095, but if Peters can't do it I'm sure someone on the forums would. It might help to give us your approx location to find the closest maker.

and........

Now that you've robbed us of our precious time and bandwidth, you'll need to cough up some photos at some point.:D

Haha, photos will come. I don't know if I have said this yet, but I am new to knife making so there will be plenty of inperfections in my work...but I am going to keep working at it and maybe one day I will be half as good as some of you guys.

No worries... we love seeing new makers perfect their skills... the documented evolution of knife making! I've learned so much from good makers after posting crap... Ha! No offence. I've also seen 1st knives that look like 101st.
