On Sept. 3 my brother and I set off on our annual motorcycle trip. I started in San Diego CA, and my bro began the trip from Boise ID. The destinations this year were all within Utah and Colorado with the focus on good rides, National Parks, and beer swilling. This is around our 22nd year doing this (hard to be sure exactly, so much swilling) but we usually focus our rides in the North West. We frequently camp on these rides but decided to pass on it this year. Camping on bikes is a time consuming ordeal and we felt the time was better spent on getting out for day hikes and goofing around.
Although we took 11 days we focused on three locations. We spent two nights in Moab UT near Arches NP, two nights in Telluride CO, and three nights at Capitol Reef NP. Both Arches and Capitol Reef are incredibly beautiful and incredibly rugged. How anyone survived (many didnt) in these areas prior to modern amenities boggles my mind. Except for a few locations water is pretty scarce. The Colorado River runs down the South side of Arches, and the little Fremont River runs through Capitol Reef, but other than that youre pretty much SOL for the wet stuff.
First the important stuff. Although they didnt see much action, these were our pointy little companions.
Brothers Fallkniven F1.
My new Brian Andrews Camp Boner (yea, I get the boner joke, thanks for that Brian!) with kydex by Mashed Cat Outfitters.
This one, by Bruce Culberson, has become just about my favorite little knife.
Back to the trip. This gives a general idea where and how we traveled.
Day hike in Arches NP.
A few pics of Telluride. Beautiful country but on a touristy scale of 1 thru 10 this one goes to 11.
Finally, a church I can get behind!
