Man if only that ODC160 was 3v or Magnacut, beautiful work!

I will make few with 3V.

IMO Uddeholm/Bohler steels are better than CPM.
M398 is better than Magnacut.
Vanadis 4E is better than 3V.

I know - you (US Men) like and support domestic metalurgy and all US stuff (BTW I like that way) but my opinion is built on 12 years of making fixed knives.
CPM steels are very good but Swedes and Austrians know their job better - IMO of course.

I am far away of marketing so will use CPM 3V for 17 knives last time and will not buy and make any knives with Magnacut.

I am for Elmax and M398(M390).

Will stay with Vanadis 4E, Elmax and Sleipner for cheaper big knives.

Merry Xmas for all ;)

J.

EDIT.

The most important think is knifemaking is HEAT TREATMENT! You can spoil the best steel or make perfect blade with poor one.....

m398 is not 'better' than magnacut... it might have a slightly increased edge retention due to the very high carbides, but it gives up toughness by a factor of 4 or 5

in other words, the biggest problem with m398 will be chipping / snapping if used sideways (lateral pressure) etc etc... the best 'use' scenario for m398 is in smaller blades which will not be abused

good write up -> https://knifesteelnerds.com/2020/10/26/m398-steel-testing-edge-retention-toughness-and-more/
you see toughness is about same as s125v around 3 ft-lbs

...

I agree with you using vanadis 4e - that is excellent all around since its much tougher and yes, imho its a better choice than most cpm
(I think you'll find most Americans also like it & know it)

Love your designs & esp the wood handles you make... esp that tanto is very sweet looking
Merry Christmas

Yes, you are right stainless steels should be used in edc knives 3-6 inches and only if customer needs that kind of steel or do not like rust(patina)

So I use Elmax, Vanadis4e and for big choppers A8Mod or A2 and Sleipner.

Merry Xmas for all...

Adam

Adam,

The ODC Mini 4 finger arrived yesterday. Just got the package opened up today and this thing is amazing. Love it!

Haha! Probably not both but definitely one of them, is there any difference between them? I didn’t notice any difference in the pictures but sometimes it’s hard to tell.
They are.as the same as hand made knives could be. Pick one you like more.
