After seeing a link to an online rope retailer on another forum, I moseyed over for a look..

http://www.rwrope.com/index.htm

What I found interesting is that they carry an "Oversize" paracord with 11 strands in the center. The text says it's a little stronger, but doesn't list a strength. If the interior strands are ~30lb a piece, then would this stuff be about 120lbs stronger than normal 550? It's apparently more round and resists flattening. He only sells it in 1000' spools for $100

Anyone ever heard of this stuff before? Sounds like it would be a good bet for a survival cord as you could get 50% more twine out of it than the standard 7-strand stuff. A quick google didn't turn up anything for me.

Their prices on the normal (550 and 400 lb) cords weren't great, but I can list them if anyone is interested.

Sounds a lot like the 650 cord I buy from a local surplus store(can't remember if the 650 cord is 10 or 11 strands), which sells for about $0.08 a foot here.
Unfortunately, they don't sell anything on their website, strictly brick and mortar.
Can't say that I've ever really needed that additional strength for cordage, but I agree with the bonus of having the extra bit there, just in case.
