  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

11 yr old boy kills bear on family porch

aww, poor bear :(

He was probably just chillin' out.

Would you guys really shoot this guy?

oh, man. stew and a rug. a new collection of claws for my son. oh, so tasty....

GREAT post! I'm going to show this to the kids in my class.

Sure - that's a primo plan. Then the bear winds up with an ulcerated infection and gets sick and needs to be put down or perhaps attacks someone because he/she/it is too sick to forage for what it normallye eats and either kills/maims someone or (again) is shot and killed.

If I had a hundred bucks for every time I've come across a bear with partially healed wounds from this sort of thing I could take my wife to the Caribbean...

Im pretty sure rock salt wont break the skin of a bear. Lead bird shot might be tough to heal depending on the range it was shot from, but better than dead.

I'm more interested in your comment where you state how many times you've come across a bear with a partailly healed wound of this type. I call BS on that. I seriously doubt it happens that often, and if it does happen once in a while, I cant think of any occupation where a person would come across it that many times. Maybe you saw this once? I'm obviously pretty new around here and dont know anything about what you do, but I cant imagine even a bear conservationist coming across this more than once in his life.

Pictures or it didn't happen.

Excellent response.

Good for all involved......... the boy, the family, the bear, and the state game officials.

Rug and claws for sure. But I think Bear is one of the worst meats I have ever eaten. :barf: I would rather eat a coon or even possum. The dogs or anyone that wanted could have the meat, unless I was starving.
Good for the kid. I wasn't there and don't know the situation. The authorities decided it was justified, that is all I can go on. Most kids now days would have been pissing their pants. Any eleven year old of average intelligence should be versed in the proper handling of a firearm, even if the parents don't own one. It satisfies their natural curiosity and you never know when they will encounter a firearm elsewhere, like at a friend's house.

I'm thinking the boy done good in this situation.

Now don't get me wrong I don't think folks should run around killing bears unless they're legally hunting them or a danger to folks or property.

If it comes down to me and mine or a dead bear I'd have to apply the rule of the Old West. Shoot'em, shovel'em, and shut up.
