110 BG-42 Scale Replacement By Buck - Two things I've Never Seen Before

The finger grooves being into the bolsters on the new knife are much better looking; the brass rivets on a NS knife are ridiculous. Looks like they just took your blade (or maybe just another BG-42 blade) and stuck it in another knife.

Might be a replacement knife; none of your parts used at all.

Are the rivits "inlays" or do they go all the way through and help hold the scales on? I just ordered a custom with Indigo wood with rivets but if they are just decorative I'll need to chage it to no rivets.:D

Yup, the rivets are functional and do hold the scales on.

As A.P.F. states, 10-4 on the rivets being functional.

As for the Tribrassapin itself, it's wierd...sometimes it bugs me...sometimes it don't.
It is the same blade as it has some partial dark marking in the nail nick that I recall from when I sent it in. As for the rest of it, I "think" it is a new body. The grooves are definitely diff. But that still doesn't explain how it became a mixed breed.

I also REALLY liked the orignal scales that were present before I screwed 'em up. But, I wanted "barky" and these are nicely matched. I like them, but liked the originals too. Prefer the fingergrooves on this AFTER one better too.

So, I am thinking it will be in my EDC rotation. What the hell...lifetime warranty. If at some point I decide to send it back I will keep ya all posted.

Thanks for all the replies :)

Tribrassapin will be right at home next to your 100th Anniversary 110 ;) :D All kidding aside, it looks cool and I think a documented factory mistake like this would be worth more should you ever decide to sell it.

I like the old style deeper finger grooves too.

Goose,
I kind of like the brass rivets too. Those are also some awesome stag scales! On a side note, what's this you coming up to Washington (my neck of the woods) and not stopping in to say hi? :( :grumpy: :p

Goose,
Looking at the before and after, did you notice that they deepened the finger grooves? The new knife looks like the finger grooves are considerably deeper and actually move into the boldsters unlike your original knife. I actually prefer it.

With my pair of pennies, Goose, I just ordered a Custom Design EDC very much like your 110. I hope it arrives similar to what you now have. Very nice in every detail. Mine however will be script-engraved on the bolsters. Watch out for the tree....there is a forest there!

So, I think I have about half a dozen 110 BG-42 knives. And two are factory boo-boo's.
One Golden Eye and the other being the recent Tribrassapin.
33% of my collection is "unique".
My forest has lots of trees ;)

Five-O Mike...I was thinking of reminding you that I was coming up north. But as it turned out I was pressed for time. It was a game time decision...
A> Back down the coast
B> Through Yakima to shake your hand
C> Get back to work

Turns out I had to get back to work for a project. So we did the I-5 Express (yawn). That's ok as I didn't burn up extra vacation days and will use those when I go to my "home state" Hawai'i next month.

BUT, I am certain I will be back in your neck of the woods someday :)
And, yes, I noted the finger grooves right after the puzzlement of the brass pins wore off. I do like the grooves and think I will give this pup EDC duty.

OK Goose...you're forgiven. :D I start a new job in Kelso, WA next Monday, which is right along I-5 about 45 minutes north of Vancouver, WA. I'll be going back to Yakima on weekends and selected week nights, so you have no excuses next time around. :D Wish I was goin to Hawaii! :o

I picked up a couple of new 110's this week. I'll have pictures up soon. They both have some nice file work.
