Hi, guys. I have an '81/'82 110 that may have been in the ground a while before I came into possession of it. The Ebony wood on one side is degraded, and both sides feature an appreciable amount of pitting on the blade. I remember Buck knives from this era as being marketed as "rust-resistant", but not stainless. Is stainless not as "stainless/non-corrosive" as I thought?

Going thru my 110 collection I found I have 2 110s with carbon steel.
I'll have to start using 1 of them to see how they can compare with the stainless models.

I'd go for another 110 if I could find one in M4. Already have the standard in 420HC, a BassPro 110 in CPM-154 with some kind of hard coating, along with my most recent 110, a Buck Slim Pro in S30V. Maybe a Custom Shop option? Let's see, nickle silver bolsters, and maybe stag grips...

I love stainless steel for my pocket knives and hunting fixed blades. If I want to take carbon into the woods I'll just grab an OLD kitchen knife.

Just Trust a Buck. I still use mine as the knife in the bigger sheath or pack knife or small duty knife for small knife duty things. I got a good supply of Buck 110s and use them, even though I slowly been getting CS knives for the folders. But after CS's new owners don't seem to have my trust yet...I'm hedging my aquisitions and its back to the classics. People ask me what affordable reliable knife one can get. I toss out the usual Buck, Gerber and CS. Every one I know, knows what a Buck 110 is and a great default to get no matter what steel it is. Of course I'm talking from a users stand point here, if it works great, Bucking the system is a wise way to go. 🤓
