Hi everyone,

If anyone is interested... I was looking at the website this morning and noticed that the 110 is available for custom order with black G10 handles.

I've been checking on occasion since they dropped a few options and I'm ordering my first custom soon. I'll keep checking to see if anything else will be added before jumping on that G10.

 pretty lame, getting rid of natural material for a in-organic one, not really material traditional now

I wouldn't really consider Dymondwood to be "natural" or "organic". I heard somewhere that the factory they used to make certain types of Dymondwood scales burned down.

Free market, if people like it the G10 will hang around, if not it will be gone (and we'll all be looking for one all the sudden :-).

I could take it or leave it myself, I do prefer stag or horn but for the price the G10 would be better on a user I think. May also open up more of the younger generation who think wood is passe. No wood on an Ar15 nor their iPhone......

I was going to say that G10 sells a lot of products. I'd kind of like it for a 112, but don't really need another. Then again, what does need have to do with it? ;)

The early 112s and 500s both used micarta. Love the micarta.

Derlin and other plastics are pretty durn traditional, imo.

I get Dymonwood but agree, it has an odd feel to it. Reminds me of the wood paneling on my dad's old Ford LTD Country Squire wagon. ;).

Micarta is fabric and resin and Dymondwood is wood and resin. <shrug>

I was actually thinking the other day that I wished they'd bring back micarta scales for teh customs (as well as add the 500 to the list).

Micarta was what the first electronic circuit boards were made of and I think still are. The timing gears in automobile engine are mostly made of a micarta these days

I hope it's OK to ask this question here. I'm looking more at a high end 110 now that I know I can handle the weight. You folks that have both the custom shop 110 and the Cabela's Alaskan Guide 110 which one do you prefer if you do prefer one over the other?

I think the Custom Shop should offer Macassar Ebony. How cool would that be? :)

I think you would be fine with either. If you want a little more choice, Go custom shop! The oak and Nickle frame with rivets was actually less money and very nice with the S30V!

I don't have either, but I had the Bass Pro Shops version for a while which is essentially the same as the Cabelas version just a different steel. I have to say that it is one beautiful knife. I like the brass frames a lot more than nickel and nothing looks better with brass than rosewood. The coating on the blade is DLC if I'm not mistaken and it is black but also has a shine to it and looks really cool in my opinion. Given the current custom shop handle options, I'd go for the Cabelas 110 over a custom, if I was in the market for S30v. But that's just me. If a nickel frame with walnut slabs and no pins sounds good than head to the custom shop. The custom is of course a custom which is super cool, but the Cabelas is available without a wait.

You'll likely be thrilled with either. Good luck.

If going custom, Inwould be inclined towards one of JAG's knives. IMO, he's pushing the design in a good direction.

Just received mine in the mail. I really like it. It has a nice grippy feel to it.

Looks like they shipped you a cheap as sheath with a flat loop also.i have the same one and can't get my belt through the loop.lol

Very nice!! I have been thinking of the same one with a mirror finish blade........

Peter, I don't have a Custom 110 but I do have both the Cabela's and Bass Pro up grade offerings. Which I like a lot. Even the blade coating. Like Seaplane & Deere. Guys that have one of Buck's Custom claim the fit & finish is tops. Your call. I like the looks of the nickel frame posted here. DM

Nice knife,
Did you order it directly from Buck? I did not see your version with rivets & silver bolsters on their custom web page?

Thanks,
Mike
