110 Ecolite

Their paperstone cutlery set comes in "black obsidian" as the standard color.

I also seen the Vantage in black ps. I'm sure Bucks' got a 110/112 black paperstone in the works. No intel...just a feeling :)

I doubt that what we gain in reduced weight is worth the arguably equal loss in strength, at least if you think you'll ever have any heavy-duty applications.

Good for spares, though, I think.

I'm a pessimist who sees the lightweight knife as half-weak, not half-strong.

I'd like to see some comparison tests that rate the lightweight's likelihood of buckling and separating from the blade under stress.

I've used ours doing some heavy cutting (Bucklites). Not to the point of failure but forcing it to cut heavy leather, large sisal rope 1" dia. and the breast plate on mule deer . Which considerable force was used during this cutting and it didn't fail . I've done the same with standard 110's and those made it as well . No loose blades ect.. I've done this with other brands (C_ _ E) and had a blade break and a pivot pin gave way . This may not be hitting a home run on your topic but its certainly batting the ball out of the infield on this issue . DM

Yes, it may be that I'm overly impressed by the weight of the 110 and attaching too much importance to it.

Also, I suppose I'm a bit of a traditionalist.

Good question......how much strength do we lose in the lightweight knife?

Enough to make a difference in a tough situation?

There could be some strength loss on the Bucklites vs. the Std. 110 . But I doubt I'll conduct the type test which brings the knives to fail . Still, a good topic to kick around and see what come up . DM

Grab me by the thumbs and haul me up the yardarm but I use HOT water out of a good hard flow faucet to blast out lint and any other debris. THEN some WD40, wipe off and out with Q-tip then a hair dryer till its almost too hot to hold. Drop of teflon oil and go. If that doesn't fix those problems then you got problems. If my tank is pumped up I will air blast it also. If scale is horn, antler or oh my gosh Ivory, I am more careful with water and temp.

300/ch

Oddly enough I did almost exactly all of that stuff on my last 'lint quest'. Still no real cahnge. I'm sending it in on Friday. Thanks for the tip.

Ok I sent it off. really hope it can be fixed.

Well even if it cant, theyll send you a new one and being such a new model your no worse for wear:thumbup:. It'd be different if you sent back a mint 110 2 dot and needed a blade replacement:(, very much reducing its collectability.

WOw I have never have a spring do that where the knife was then unlockable. The Ecolite still locked up tight, just preseted a poking hazard. This speaks well to me of Bucks design. Thanks for the note!
