So I was thinking about ordering a custom shop buck with BG-42 and much to my dismay BG-42 isnt available anymore? Can someone at buck chime in on if/when it will be again?

Thanks

Regretably, I don't think that it will be available again in the future.

Buck said no more ever. That is why the BG-42 is so desirable. Not only is it a superior expensive and strong steel but a collector. I have a bg-42 on my 186 take apart. Mr Chuck Buck commented how hard of a steel the BG-42 is when he was signing my knife.

I like the work that Buck's Custom Shop does. I wonder why they stopped offering BG-42 as an option? I had my 560 and all but the oldest of my 110's fitted with BG-42 before Buck left San Diego for Idaho.

Good stuff and screaming sharp when I received them.

I see that they offer S30V as an upgrade for $18.50 through their Custom Shop. Nice steel for a nice price. My Custom Shop Sambar Stag with BG-42 and nickel bolsters is my prize folder.

When it comes to knife steel I don't think there is any "clear" advantage over another steel. It all depends on heat treat, grind, blade finish (or coating) and shape etc.
I have several of those knives in different steels, and in *my* use, that isnt even close to the order I would put them in. It also depends on the way one uses a blade...

I didn't know BG-42 was gone for good. :(

First Sebenza and now Buck. :thumbdn:

I was going to order a Koa Flame Wood in BG-42 and missed the boat, I guess.

I sold my Custom Shoppe BG-42 in Koa about a year or so ago. Ouch!

But I did save a picture of it:

Still have 2 though - one in walnut, and one in Blue Diamondwood.
I'm keeping the walnut as a safe queen, and use the Diamondwood one occasionally.
Very occasionally.

Rifon...
WTH???
You sold that???
Wow...I am a BIG Koa and BG-42 fan. Bummed you sold it and bummed I didn't get it.

My first BG-42 I got from ZZJake...haven't heard from him since forever. It's a walnut (see pic).

I think I have about a half dozen BG-42's. Good project for me to inventory tomorrow. Work is stressful and that will give me something to take my mind off it for a bit.

And Big John is correct in getting the last one. I recall when I ordered my two BG-42 G-10 Micartas that Buck said there was only one was left after that.

While I know that I got the last 110 SS Damascus for last year, they were getting more of that steel from the supplier. So, the BG-42's are something special to me...not just for the supply, but for their quality.

Somewhere (or from someone) I heard that BG-42 was in short supply due to military contractors needing it. But I've not seen anything conclusive to back that up.

Heres a ref data sheet on the make-up of BG-42: http://www.bestknives.com/bg42.html

I hope you can get one from somewhere Knife Geek.
