came home today and saw one of my front yard grown pineapples growing is getting close to harvest time. so pulled out my 110 i had with me today on my belt.

bit early still but falling over and if i wait too long raccoons will come and take bites. best to wait until as ripe on plant as I noticed once cut they don't get much sweeter on the counter. I'm no pineapple expert though just an amatuer.

Bites? the little devils took every fruit off 12 trees this year. Glad you got yours JB
thank you, Sir. sorry they are taking your crops from ya.

yep bites. they dont seem to like it, but still take a bite out of each one every couple years when a crop comes when they are properly ripe. I assume raccoons but I never catch them. could be some other critter?

Thats really cool JB. I could kill a fake plant so nothing like this for me.:D I don't think we can even grow them up here in MD IDK tho. So u just plant the tops of a used pineapple, and out comes another one?:D. Do you get one new one out of one top or can they keep growing?

I can't grow pineapple up here in southern Ohio, but the raccoons will destroy a cantaloupe too. You can watch it and know the color is getting close to changing and it will be perfectly ripe....and then the next day you'll go check and instead of the perfect cantaloupe you have just the empty rind with all the fruit scooped out. Definitely a let down and a good way to spike your blood pressure.

Good job on the pineapple and nice 110! Always good to see them used.

yep. plant top. you could do it in a pot. I used to grow them when I lived in apartments in pots. they are tough plants ya cant kill them easily if at all. after pineapple grows I cut it from the stalk and leave the plant be. it tends to sprout a new section and has two plants for a lack of a better term and another pineapples comes in about 2 years give or take. they dont produce much or fast. there is a way to get them to produce faster. some sort of chemical reaction setup. believe they do it in mass production farms. dont remember what it is, but for me its more for fun than food. I do eat what I can though.

raccoons everywhere raiding gardens and trash cans.:D

man do I love cantaloupes and melons of all kinds. I'm too stingy with water to irrigate properly so I grow what can survive with minimal watering and rain. also what can survive the massive bugs attacks down here. had papaya plants going well until white flies got to them. might try again.

thank you Sir. never let it be said a buck 110 cant do about everything.....:)

Oh ok. You learn something new everyday. I attempted a tomato plant in a pot last year that my neighbor gave me. That didn't last long.:D

dont feel bad. i killed my tomatos off this year too...didnt water enough. rained well but not enough for them.

That’s some nice looking pineapples jb, and a nice 110 doing a fine job. I love fresh pineapple so I’m gonna check on how to grow in pots. I didn’t realize they grew so slow and it’s interesting that you can plant just the top and grow another one. I figured they would need roots to grow from. Thanks for sharing jb !

Sorry, not raccoons.......just me.... taking bites of your pineapples... but I'm leaving you the rest.....thought I was being generous and sharing......

I thought the same thing. I also thought they grew on a vine kinda like watermelons or pumpkins. I had no clue.

A handsome 110 and some good pineapple information.
We had locally grown sugar-baby melons this evening and I used my 110 to cut them up. DM

yum. looks like that was some good eating there Sir. thank you. i like seeing that screwed together 110 getting the melon task. it's a good looking 110 as well.

you can see the plants. 20190409_184943.jpg

this was when two of them first started.

they are a lowish bush with leaves that are strong and have sharp edges. some varieties are more sharp and jagged pattern than others. you can trim the leaves back to control them, but I usually dont.

So JB, The plant on the top can be removed and started on it's own? That's interesting. Not interesting enough to try to grow some...I'm tired of feeding the animals. The only crop here that survives the critters is pomegranates and this year it rained too much in the spring for them. didn't get a single bloom.

The real solution is racoonpossumvenisonlittlebirdy stew. I just can't bring myself to kill em because they're hungry. Folks come out and see my garden and fruit trees and ask me what I grow. I respond "criiters".
